YOU ARE SO ANNOYING

From the desk of Grace Lange,

You know those people who just do those little things that just piss you off…

Try living with your sister…

So my sister, Hannah, and I moved in together this past July, and it has been awesome!

I went from living with two other roommates to living with someone who is much easier to live with… I mean we can get mad at each other but still have to like each other afterwards!

We are both pretty busy and hadn’t been spending much time together until recently…

And the other day we were sitting together in the living room just relaxing. I was eating my breakfast and all of a sudden she screamed at me:

“Grace! Stop chewing like that, you are SO ANNOYING!!”

As if I can help how I chew and apparently clink my fork on my bowl too much… *eye roll*

This was followed by her saying, “Why do you have to walk so loudly. I can’t stand you.”

Now to any of you who have siblings, you know that it is normal to get upset with your brother or sister like this, because sometimes they are plain old annoying!

So after both of those remarks I laughed and told her that she is in control of her emotions, so she shouldn’t be getting so mad at me all the time….

Well… that didn’t go over so well either.

This whole exchange of eating, yelling, walking, yelling, and laughing got me thinking…

We allow ourselves to get so upset over the littlest things.

Our emotions control everything.

If we are in a bad mood, everything else seems to go wrong, and if we are in a good mood, everything seems to be a little better. But why?

I have heard time and time again that you should never be too high or too low, and I could never relate to something like that, because I always let my emotions get the best of me…

But this made me realize that the more we let the little things get to us, the easier it will be to let the big things really affect us.

Think about all of the things that made you upset today…

Were they worth making you upset?

Was it worth it to yell at the car in front of you for going to slow?

Was it worth it to get mad at your kid for dropping their breakfast on the floor, making you 5 minutes late for work this morning?

Was it worth it to send that nasty email back to your coworker when they messed a project up?

When you think about it like that… probably not.

It is never worth it to let something get you down that doesn’t deserve to consume your energy.

And don’t get me wrong… It is super annoying when all of those things happen, but it is up to us to not let the little things get us down.

When you choose to focus on the positive, those little things that seem like a big deal won’t be anymore, and when those big things come around, they will be little things that you can handle…

A positive mindset can absolutely change your life…

But this takes practice.

And don’t worry… I am working on this everyday…

So the next time Hannah leaves the peanut butter on the counter (every morning), I am going to tell myself that it is okay and not get upset. IT’S NOT WORTH IT!

I would love to talk to you about how to focus on a positive growth mindset and avoid the little negative things… and I’d love to meet you!
